Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man was killed in Denton.
Shortly before 3am on Sunday7 June 2015, police were called to Manchester Road to a report of a large fight.
When officers attended they found a group of between six and eight men had been fighting and two men with serious injuries.
Both were taken to hospital but one of the men, aged 21, sadly died from his injuries in hospital. A post-mortem examination is due to take place. The man has not yet been formally identified.
The other man, 18, remains in hospital where he is being treated for facial injuries. His conditionis not thought to be life-threatening.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody for questioning.
Superintendent Phil Readesaid: “A young man has sadly died and our thoughts and deepestsympathies are with his relatives and friends.
“I cannot begin to imagine what they are going through and specially trained officers are offering them whatever support we can.
“We have arrested one man but there are other people out there who were involved in the fight, and we believe the group may have been in Hughes’s bar before hand. If you were in the bar last night and saw the group, please get in touch.
“I would urge any witnesses to this tragic incident to come forward and speak to us in confidence.
“When an incident like this happens, I understand it can cause a huge amount of distress in the community, but I would like to reassure the public that we have a team ofexperienced detectives working to establish the circumstances leading up to his death.”
