Fatal fire Lewes Road in Darlington

“At 0250hrs today, Friday 12th June the emergency services received calls reporting there had been an explosion at a house in Lewes Road, just off Neasham Road in Darlington

When they arrived at the scene they found the mid-terraced property on fire, with the roof already badly damaged.

Fire and Rescue personnel entered the house and found the body of a person upstairs.

Several neighbouring properties have been evacuated and the road is cordoned off.

Supt Kerrin Smith said; “A joint investigation is under way involving the police and Fire and Rescue. At this stage it would be premature to speculate on the cause.”
