Police Hour is welcoming the news that the Government will ban new New Psychoactive Substances more comminly known as legal highs.

The Queen made the announcement at today’s Queen’s Speech.

The news means that all legal highs will be banned, these can cause numerous problems for police officers and have been linked to many violent attacks on police officers.

There have also been a number of high profile cases were a number of people have been admitted to hispital while others have died as a result.

Legal highs produce similar effects illegal drugs but are not yet controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They cannot be sold for human consumption and are openly marketed with this warning while others are sold as bath salts or plant food to get around the law. Most fall into one of three categories: stimulants; sedativesor hallucinogens.
