Murder Investigation launched as 26 year old woman found dead

DETECTIVES in Preston have launched an investigation after the unexplained death of a young woman in the Ashton area of the city.

Police were called by the Ambulance Service at around 5.25am this morning (Saturday, May 16th) to the report of a woman, 26,  had been found unresponsive at an address on Heywood Road.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where she was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.

 A post mortem examination to establish the cause of death will take place in due course.

A 26-year-old man from  Preston has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

Det Insp Richard McCutcheon from the Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “This investigation is very much in its early stages and we are trying to establish exactly what has happened  to this woman.

“Her family are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

“I am asking anyone who may have been in the area the night before, the early hours of this morning or indeed if they have any information about this incident at all, to get in touch with us at their earliest opportunity.”
