Police are investigating the death of a man who was found injured in Cockermouth today (31st May 2015).
Police were called at 3:03am this morning with a report of a man found injured at the Globe Hotel on Main Street in Cockermouth. The man was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
The death is being treated as suspicious at this time.
Temporary Detective Inspector Ralph Henderson from Cumbria Constabulary said:
“We have a team of detectives working hard to find out the identity of the male, and establish what exactly has happened. We have closed a section of Cockermouth while we carry out our enquiries.
“I would like to reassure people that we don’t believe there is any danger to the public at this time, and thank local people for their patience while we undertake a thorough investigation.
“At this early stage in the investigation I would urge anyone who was in the Globe Hotel last night between 11pm (Saturday night) and 2:30am (early hours of Sunday morning) to make contact with West Cumbria CID by contacting 101.”
The roads currently closed include:
– A section of Station Street (between Main Street and South Street)
– Main Street along to Market Place
– South Street to River Cocker
The areas within these boundaries are also closed.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
