Police have made two arrests after a man was shot in Newcastle.
At 5:56pm on Saturday, May 30, police received a report from the ambulance service that a man had been shot inside an address in Scarborough Road.
Officers attended the scene and a 32-year-oldman was taken to hospital with two gun shot wounds to his leg and a minor head injury. He remains in hospital but his injuries are not thought tobe life threatening.
A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon. They both remain in police custody.
Superintendent Mick Paterson said: “Webelieve that the offenders were known to the victim and this has been an isolated incident.
“There is no threat to any members of the public and extra officers will remain in the Scarborough Road area today to carry out further enquiries and offer reassurance tomembers of the public.
“We have two people in custody helping us with our enquiries and I’d urge anyone with any information to contact police as soon as possible.”
