Northamptonshire Police have confirmed they have arrested a Police Officer on suspicion of murdering his wife.
The force has confirmed a 49 year old police officer is in police custody, he was arrested following the murder of his wife at their home address.
The police officer who was off duty at the time of his arrest was arrested shortly after 1pm on Thursday 26th March 2015 after police were called to an address in Wootton Hall Park.
The officer remains in police custody and will be questioned by detectives in due course.
A post mortem investigation will be carried out later by a Home Office pathologist in Leicester.
The overall investigation will be led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, headed by Det Supt Kate Meynell.
It will be carried out by officers, including scenes of crime specialists, drafted in from across the region, but will not include anyone from Northamptonshire Police.
Det Supt Meynell said: “A full and proper investigation is taking place. Northamptonshire Police will not be making any further comment on this investigation at this stage.”
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of course.
