Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man died in hospital following an altercation in the Guildford area earlier today (Monday 2 February).
Officers were called to the Royal Surrey County Hospital following reports that a man in his 20s had been admitted with stab wounds at around 3.35pm.
Enquiries established that an altercation had earlier taken place in Aldershot Road involving the occupants of a black Vauxhall Corsa and a dark coloured van. The injured man was taken in the van to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short while later.
A man and two women, all in their 20s, were arrested in the local area shortly after on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.
An area of Aldershot Road remains cordoned off at this time while a forensic examniation is carried out at the scene. Officers are also carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the local area.
A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the cause of death.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Aldershot Road from 3pm today and may have witnessed what happened to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Fiona Macpherson said: “This is a tragic incident which has led to the death of a young man and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends at this time.
“Three people have been arrested in connection with the investigation and we are carrying out a number of enquiries in the local area to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“I would ask anyone who was in the Aldershot Road area this afternoon and may have seen the two vehicles or the altercation taking place to contact police as a matter of urgency.”
