Investigation underway after shots fired

At about 5.50pm today, Monday 23 February 2015, police were called to the junction of Lower Broughton Road and Frederick Street to reports of a firearms discharge.

Witnesses reported seeing two men on an orange motorbike firing shots from a handgun at a white van. Both the motorbike and the van left the scene before police arrived and no injuries have been reported.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information about the incident and inquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Kenny Blain of Salford division said: “We are at the early stages of our enquiries and don’t yet know if anybody was hurt. I would urge you to come forward if you were injured or involved in this incident.

“The local community will understandably be concerned by this incident and I want to reassure residentsthat we have an increased police presence in the area.

“If you have any informationthat would be useful to the investigation than please come forward and speak to us.”
