Police discover body in search for missing Durham Uni Student Euan Colthard

Durham Constabulary have confirmed they believe a body they have recovered from the river Wear in Durham City is that of missing student Euan Colthard.

Police launched major missing persons inquiry after Euan who is aged just 19, of St Mary’s College, disappeared after he was last seen leaving the Loveshack nightclub in the Walkergate area of Durham City late on Wednesday 14th January.

Officers from Durham Constabulary responded to calls from members of the public this morning after a body was spotted in the river.

Specialist police divers then began a search of the river, near to Framwellgate Bridge and the body of a male was found and recovered from the water.

A formal identification is yet to take place however Euan’s family have been informed of the developments.

A post mortem examination will take place later.
