Police urgently tracing Jonathan Michael Doherty over stabbing

Officers have issued an urgent appeal to trace Jonathan Michael Doherty aged 36 following a stabbing in Northallerton.

A incident occurred on Wednesday 17th December when a local man aged 34 was admitted to hospital following a stabbing to his back which required surgery.

Officers believe it was a targeted and isolated incident inwhich the wider community were not at risk.

Doherty is described as white with dark-brown hair, browneyes, 5ft 10in tall, medium build and he speaks with a Yorkshire accent. A photograph of him has been circulated by the police.

Detective Inspector Shaun Page, of Northallerton CID, said:“It is vital that Jonathon Doherty is arrested as soon as possible inconnection with the stabbing incident in Northallerton on Wednesday morning.

“Extensive police enquires remain ongoing to locatehim and we are appealing for the public’s help to assist the search.

“If anyone knows where he is or you have possibly seena man matching his description, please do not approach him and call the policeimmediately on 999.”

DI Page added: “Jonathon, if you see or hear thisappeal, you need to think very carefully and do the right thing by handingyourself into the police. The longer you evade the police the harder you aremaking it for yourself.”
