Man charged with rape, sexual assault on 14 and 16 year old girls

A man has this morning been charged with the alleged rape of a 14 year old and a 16 year old.

Greg Smith aged 26 from sale, has been charged with five counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and a section 39 assault on two teenage victims.

Police during the investigation have uncovered further evidence against him resulting in five counts of the possession of indecent images and twelve counts of possession of pornographic images.

The offences relate to two female teenagers aged 14 and 16, the further charges relate to a secondary investigation.

Detective Inspector Debbie Oakes, from GMP’s Protect Team, a specialist unit set up to tackle child sexual exploitation in Manchester and Salford, said: “Greg Smith has been charged with a number of very serious offences and it is important his case can go ahead and be heard fairly and without prejudice.

“Although there are charges in this case, our investigations into these offences are still very much ongoing.

“I would ask anyone who might have information about these or any other matters relevant to the investigation to call us.

“Your call will be treated in absolute confidence and we have dedicated and specially trained detectives on hand to speak to you.”

Smith is due to appear at Trafford Magistrates Court on July 26th.
