Northumbria Police are continuing to search a Newcastle University building following the discovery of a Potentially suspicious items.

Police have arrested an 18 year old who is currently in police custody.

Potentially suspicious items have been found and the building has been evacuated as a precaution so the items can be recovered and examined.

Enquiries are in the early stages and we are working closely with Newcastle University.

There is currently no cause for concern for students and the wider community.
