Heavy traffic as Appleby Horse Fair 2014 comes to a close

Cumbria Police are warning of heavy traffic on the A66 near to Appleby as the horse fair comes to a close.

The travelling community have begun leaving the Horse Fair, a large number of the travellers are leaving in bow tops which are moving a slow speed, which is causing a build up of congestion on the A66 eastbound.

Police are urging Bow Tops to use the Warcop route as an alternative to ease congestion on the A66.

Cumbria Police are advising people to be patient, be mindful of road safety and not take any unnecessary chances. People should consider delaying their journey home for a short time to assist with easing the congestion.
