A man is beginning an eight year jail sentence, for the rape of a girl aged just 10.

Dale Barrett aged 33 will spend the next few years of his life behind bars following befriending a family in Peterborough.

Allowing him to rape a their daughter on three separate occasions.

The victim came forward in 2012 after the sex attacks in the 1990s.

Barrett of Wootton Avenue, Fletton, denied three charges of rape and two of indecent assault but was convicted following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court.

He was jailed for a total of eight years on Wednesday (June 18).

Detective Constable Gavin Sylvester from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “Barrett was well aware how young the victim was but still chose to take advantage of her.

“His actions have had a huge impact on her life and I hope that she is now able to put this behind her and start to move on.”
