Two bodies found in River Tyne search

Northumbria Police, HM Coastguard and RAF Boulmer are currently involved in on going searches following the disappearance of three men who went kayaking in the River Tyne in Northumberland yesterday.

Police received at call at 11pm on Sunday May 11th for the concern for safety after three men failed to return home.

Police have carried out over night searches, during this police located the vehicle of the missing men at Tyne Green near Hexham Rowing Club at around 1.15.

Police located a second vehicle at 410am belonging to one of the men at 4.10am at Wylam train station car park.

Two kayaks have also been recovered in the searches.

RAF Boulmer located the body or one male at 5.10am from the river at Riding Mill.

They recovered a second body at 6.20am in the Corbridge area.

Formal identification of both is yet to take place.

Searches are continuing this morning.

Superintendent Steve Howes, from Northumberland Area Command, said: “Our searches of the area are continuing today with assistance from the HM Coastguard and RAF Boulmer.

“Anyone who sees anything or has any information they think would assist with our searches should contact us.”
