Northumbria Police are investigating a serious assault after a male was found in the street with a head injury.

Police attended Front Street in Newbiggin at 2.40am Sunday May 4th following a request from the ambulance service.

A member of public discoverer an unconscious male in Front street, the man who is 59-year-old was rushed to Wansbeck District General Hospital.

He has since been transferred to Newcastle’s RVI where his condition is described as serious.

Police have been examining the scene this morning and are carrying out enquiries to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the man being found in the street.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the man in the area or any suspicious activity in the early hours of the morning.
