Northumbria Police have launched an investigation following a disturbance in Sunderland.

Police were this morning at 1.35am Sunday May 18th called to reports of a male armed with a knife and setting off a flare gut in Fordfield Road, Sunderland.

The male was challenged by members of the public and he made off from the scene in a sliver car, causing damage to parked vehicles within the street.

It is believed the male was involved in an altercation at an address within the street prior to the incident occurring.

He is described as white, tall in his late 20s and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, the male made off in the direction of Pennywell.

Police are carrying our enquiries to trace the male and are keen to speak to any eyewitnesses.

Anyone with any information is requested to call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting incident number 155 18/05/14.
