Police have arrested five people following a disturbance in Newcastle in which a woman was attacked with a metal bar.

The incident occurred on Saturday May 17th at 10pm.

Police were called to reports of an ongoing disturbance outside an address on Eastgarth, Newbiggin Hall.

Officers attended the scene where a 31-year-old woman was found with a cut to her forehead after being struck by a metal bar.

She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment. However, her injury is not believed to be life threatening and she has since been released.

Two teenage males, aged 18 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent.

Another three men, aged 39, 27 and 22, have all been arrested on suspicion of affray.

All those arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information is requested to contact northumbria police on 101.
