Northumbria Police have arrested a male following an attempted robbery on a Newcastle off licence.
Police attended reports that a male had entered Chillingham News on Chillingham Road in Newcastle, on Saturday May 3rd following reports a man had gone into Chillingham News carrying a metal bar and attempted to steal beer.
He was approached by the shop keeper and left empty handed.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is currently helping police with enquiries.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 1203, 03/05/14, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Northumbria Police is continuing to crackdown on shoplifting across the force area as part of Operation Soundwave – an initiative targeting opportunist thieves.
