Police were called to reports of a house fire in Blackley at 8.10am on Wednesday 2nd April 2014.
The blaze occurred at a house on Belthorne Avenue, in Manchester.
Police have confirmed a 50-year-old man who was inside the house was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.
Police have described his condition as serious but stable.
Greater Manchester Police have arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody for questioning.
Police are investigating the fire and are appealing for information and witnesses.
Detective Sergeant Alex Wild said: “The fire service responded quickly and were able to get the man out of the building and in to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
“We have now launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and would ask anyone with information about it or anyone who witnessed anything unusual around the property to contact police.”
