Northumbria Police have charged a woman with wasting police time after reporting a serious offence.

The 20-year-old woman accused a male of jabbing her in the hand with a needle in a street in Wrekenton.

Police launched an investigation resulting in a male arrested and interviewed in relation to the offence.

Police have established the offence didn’t take place and the 35-year-old arrested man was released without charge, receiving no further action.

Northumbria Police have since charged a 20-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time and received a fixed penalty notice.
