The British Transport Police have confirmed to Breaking News Police that sadly a male has died after he was hit by a train in Billingham.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports a person had been hit by a train at a level crossing at Cowpen Bewley in Billingham.

The incident occurred at 9.30pm

British Trainsport Police have said: “At 9.30pm on Tuesday, March 11, a report was received that the driver of the 8.30pm Newcastle to Middlesbrough passenger train had reported striking a person in the area of Cowpen Bewley, Billingham.

“British Transport Police and Cleveland Police officers together with paramedics attended the body of a male found deceased at the scene.

“There were no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been advised.”
