A woman has jumped off the roof of a shopping centre days after a man was cleared of raping her by a jury.
The 41-year-old woman jumped to her death from the car park roof at Wheatsheaf centre in Rochdale.
Police negotiators attempted in vain to persuade the woman not to jump.
Ambulance Staff had been on standby and rushed her to hospital with life-threatening condition however she later died.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that she appeared angry and upset when specially trained officers informed he of the acquittal.
Greater Manchester Police offered her support
On Friday, the woman appeared angry and upset when specially trained officers told her at home of the acquittal earlier in the day, said Greater Manchester Police.
She was offered support by the officers, later in the day she called police officers in a distressed state.
Police Officers and ambulance staff returned her to her home they left when she became calmer after advice and a referral to partner agencies was made.
Greater Manchester Police have referred the matter to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Assistant Chief Constable Dawn Copley said: “The woman had been a complainant in a case that recently concluded at court.
“And throughout that process specially trained officers from Greater Manchester Police had been providing her with regular support and advice.
“This is a terribly sad end to what has been a long and difficult case.”
