OFFICERS are appealing for information and have released CCTV images after a man was the victim of an unprovoked assault in the town centre.

Around 9pm on the 25th of November, the victim was stood alone outside in the smoking area of the Belle Vue Pub on Whitegate Drive when he was approached by a man who, in an unprovoked attack, hit him over the head with a glass.

The glass smashed but fortunately, the victim was not injured. The offender was then pulled away from the victim by another man and both left the scene.

PC Faye Kellet said: “This was an unprovoked assault and it was only fortunate that the victim was not injured. We appreciate this happened some time ago but we are hoping the CCTV image will either jog someone’s memory or that someone will see it and recognise the man we are looking to speak to.

“If anyone did see what happened or if anyone recognises the man in the CCTV image then I would ask them to contact police if they have any information they think could help.”

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number LC-20131125-1380.

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
