Police appeal for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Lichfield

Police officers are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Lichfield.

The collision happened at around 12.20pm on Tuesday 25 February when a black Saab left the road and was in collision with a stationary unoccupied red Ford KA in Shortbutts Lane.

The driver of the Saab, an 87-year-old man from Lichfield, was taken to Good Hope Hospital but sadly, despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Formal identification has not yet taken place and officers are in the process of informing the man’s family.

The road remained closed off while specialist officers carried out an examination of the scene and officers would like to thank the public for their patience.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact PC Alan Smart at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 244 of February 25.
