Durham Police have today admitted they did in fact fire shots during an incident on Yarm Road Darlington.
Police Officers did open fire on van during an arrest after confirming to Breaking News Police that they did not fire any shots during the arrest of three people.
Eye witnesses at the time had told Breaking News Police that an armed robbery at a supermarket had occurred as shots were fired, and more than one.
Police have now confirmed they shot out the tyres of the van to ensure it was safety stopped, as suspects on board the van were armed.
The stop which is referred to as a Hard Stop is a very safe and effective tactic used by the police to stop armed suspects, Durham Constabulary should be praised for the incident which ended in the arrest of three armed men who police intercepted as a result of good police work.
Durham Constabulary had confirmed the incident has not been refereed to the independent police complaints commission.
Durham Police insisted the public were not at risk during the Sunday teatime drama and said the incident would not be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because no one had been injured.
