dog owner attacked with piece of wood as he tried to catch his pet

Detectives in  Scunthorpe, Humberside are appealing for information in connection with an incident which happened at the junction of Priory Lane, with Devonshire Road in Scunthorpe.

A force statement said: “At around 10.45pm on Saturday, January 4 a 23-year-old man was inside an address with his girlfriend and a group of friends when they heard some people outside.

“The man’s friends went outside to see what was going on and gave chase to two men who were on bicycles.

“A dog, belonging to the 23-year-old, then ran from the address and he made an attempt to catch the dog and return it home.

“As the man turned the corner at the junction of Priory Lane, with Devonshire Road he came across a large group of individuals. One of the group is then alleged to have hit the man with a wooden object over his head and assaulted him, before the group dispersed.

“The man sustained cuts and bruises in the incident.

“A 21 year old man was arrested by police and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

Anyone who may have information in connection with the incident is asked to call Humberside Police on 101 quoting crime reference BG/2001830/2014.
