Police are appealing for witnesses after a takeaway delivery driver was robbed and assaulted in Golborne.

At about 11.20pm on Saturday 28 December 2013, the driver was delivering food to an address on May Street, when two or three men who were standing in the street flagged him down and asked whether he was delivering food.

When the man confirmed that he was, one of the offenders dragged him out of the car and assaulted him. Another offender stole the food.

The car was then driven no more than 20 yards onto a grass verge off May Street.

The offenders then left with the food. They were dressed in dark clothing.

The man suffered bruises to his face and body.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed until 28 February 2014.

Detective Constable Andrew Partington said: “One line of enquiry we are pursuing is that the offenders themselves placed the food order.

“However, we are urging anyone who may have witnessed this incident or saw the offenders hanging around beforehand to get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7321 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
