Staff threatened in knifepoint robbery

Police in Manchester are today investigating an armed robbery after a man leapt over a counter and proceeded to threaten staff at knifepoint so that he could steal some painkillers.

Police were called to Rowland’s pharmacy on Lakeland Court in Middleton at 9.40am on Tuesday 31st December 2013.

The male jumped over the dispensing cabinet and threatened a member of staff within the pharmacy with a knife, he demanded Co-codamol.

The member of staff handed over the drug the man who then ran off.

He is described as white, 6ft tall, of slim build and was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Detective Constable Michael Berger, said: “These drugs can be bought over the counter for very little cost so this man’s actions smack of desperation.

“A robbery is a robbery regardless of the value or quantity of items stolen and this is a very serious offence.

“If you were in the area and saw something of note or have any information about who is responsible please get in touch.”
