Newsagents robbed by two men

Two men robbed cash, cigarettes and alcohol from a shop in Newton Heath.

At around 8.30pm on Saturday 28 December 2013, two men pulled up outside the newsagents on Briscoe Lane in a silver Renault Clio.

They went into the shop, walked behind the counter and threatened the shop worker, pushing him into a chair.

They demanded a female customer leave the premises and then forced the man to open the till.

The two offenders stole cash from the till and the man’s pockets, as well as cigarettes and two bottles of alcohol.

The men then made off in the A-registered silver Renault Clio along Scotland Hall Road.

The first man is described as around 5ft 8in tall, of skinny build and with a pale complexion. He had small, squinty eyes, thick dark blonde eyebrows and short mousey blonde hair. He was wearing a light grey tracksuit top with the hood pulled up and down over his face and a black scarf pulled over his nose. He spoke with a local accent.

The second man is described as shorter and chubbier than the first man. He had his hood down and a scarf pulled up over his face. He had shaved mousey coloured hair and was clean shaven.

Detective Constable Nick Fernandes said: “We are appealing for anyone that recognises these two men to get in touch with us. In particular, we have an excellent description of the car, which is a silver A-registered Renault Clio, with the registration plate ending ACE.

“If you know who this belongs to, or if you have seen someone driving it or know where it is parked up, then please get in touch.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact police at Central Park police station on 0161 856 3387.
