Forecasters have warned of icy road surfaces as temperatures dip below freezing in most areas tonight.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice from midnight until 9am tomorrow morning.

A spokesman said: “Surface temperatures will fall to around or just below freezing late on Thursday night into Friday morning.

“With a lot of standing water present in many areas from the recent wet weather and flooding icy stretches are expected to form, particularly on untreated surfaces.

“The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel on the roads.”

Police are advising people to drive to conditions and slow down as the roads maybe damp after the heavy rain
