Police have now named the man who died following an incident inside an address in Hutton Avenue in Hartlepool as 31 year old Mark Denton.
Mark had been attending a New Year’s Eve party at the house when the incident occurred at 10.20pm on Tuesday 31st December 2013.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
A murder enquiry has been launched and a post mortem examination carried out today revealed he had died from an injury sustained during the incident.
Two men aged 17 and 23 and a man aged in his twenties have all been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and are being questioned by police.
A number of addresses in the Hartlepool area have been searched in connection with the investigation.
The house on Hutton Avenue remains sealed off as police are carrying out an extensive forensic examination. House to house enquiries are also being carried out in the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Anne-Marie Salwey, who is leading the investigation said: “Our thoughts are with Mark’s family at this particularly sad time, who are being supported by specially trained officers.
“We are currently establishing the circumstances leading up to Mark’s death, and following a number of lines of enquiry. I would particularly appeal for anyone who was at the party last night and who we haven’t yet spoken to, to get in touch.
“Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the enquiry and they are currently being questioned by police.”
