Man remains in a critical condition following manchester assault

A man remains in a critical condition after suffering head injuries.

Shortly after 4.15am on Friday 24 January 2014, police were called to reports of an assault on Deansgate, at the junction with John Dalton Street.

Officers went to the scene and found a man in his mid-30s with serious head injuries collapsed in the street.

He was treated by ambulance crew at the scene before being taken to Hope Hospital. He remains in a critical condition.

It is believed the victim was punched during an altercation with another man before he got into a white Volkswagen Polo which has now been recovered.

It is thought there may have been an earlier altercation in a nearby nightclub before the incident.

Two men, 21 and 27, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and remain in police custody for questioning.

An 18-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been released without charge.
