Man appears in court charged with firearms offences

A man has appeared before magistrates in Newcastle today (Monday 6 January) after he was charged in connection with a firearms incident in Tean in November 2013.

Nadeem Mohammed, 27, of Hose Street, Stoke-on-Trent, was charged with conspiring to commit robbery, possession of a shotgun with intent to cause fear of violence and possession of a bladed weapon. He was remanded in custody to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday 27 January.

Mohammed was arrested in the Stoke-on-Trent area on Friday 3 January along with a second man, a 25-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent, who remains on bail pending further inquiries.

The incident happened at around 8.20pm on Thursday 28 November when it was reported that four masked men attempted to break into a house in Gorsty Hill, Tean. The householder was able to defend himself and the offenders made off.

Detectives are continuing with a detailed and thorough investigation into the incident.
