Fans looking to get home from Old Trafford after tonight’s football match are advised to avoid the city centre after a man died in a collision with a tram.

The man, who has yet to be identified, died when he was struck by the tram outside Debenhams in Market Place, Manchester City Centre at around 6.15pm today, Saturday 11 January 2014.

Police are at the scene and Metrolink have closed the tram network temporarily while emergency services deal with the scene.

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the area for the foreseeable future.

Football fans leaving the ongoing match at Old Trafford are advised to check their travel arrangements are still in place. The Metrolink is currently closed, but the rail network is working as normal so people are advised to use trains if possible.
