The male victim was assaulted with a bladed weapon in Milehouse Lane, near to the entrance of Lymedale Business Park, at around 1.55am this morning (Thursday 30 January).

The victim, from Newcastle, was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with serious injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

Three Newcastle men, aged 29, 31 and 33, have been arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody for questioning.

An area of Milehouse Lane and Wilmot Drive has being cordoned off for a detailed forensic examination to take place.

Chief Inspector Clare Riley, Local Policing Team Commander for Newcastle Borough, said: “We’d like to reassure residents that parties involved in this incident are known to each other and it was not a random attack.

“As a result of the incident a man suffered serious injuries and we have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances.

“Officers will be in the area today carrying out house to house inquiries and if you have any concerns please speak to them.

“Please get in touch if you have any information that may help the investigation by contacting us on 101, quoting incident number 43 of January 30. Alternatively, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
