Cumbria Police, Local Councils and the Environment Agency are warning communities of cumbria of the potential for fresh disruption today (Friday 31st January) and into the weekend.
Police are warning high wind, rain and tidal surges which may effect cumbria.
The Met Office has today issues ‘Yellow Alerts’ for ran wind which remain in place until sunday.
The weather is forecast for heavy rain and snow over higher ground.
Strong winds are also expected over Saturday and Sunday which, combined with high tides, could lead to coastal flooding caused by large waves and spray.
Heavy rain on already saturated ground will also heighten the risk of river and surface water flooding across the region.
Given this warning, Cumbria Police and partner agencies are taking this advanced opportunity to urge people to be prepared and take care. People are advised to avoid going near harbours or promenades during this period for their own safety.
