Cleveland Police discharge baton round at Durnford Road Middlesbrough incident

Police were called to report of a man claiming to have a gun at an address on Durnford Road in Middlesbrough, shortly before 10.30pm on Friday 24th January 2014.

Unarmed officers and armed officers attended the address and the property was cordoned off.

In response to the man’s actions, a baton round was discharged by police shortly after 11.30pm.

The man, who was inside the address, was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this stage.

No-one else was in the address at the time of the incident and no-one else was injured.

A 46 year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and will be questioned by police.

In line with national procedures, the matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
