Police have today confirm that bones found today in Stockton are historic bones that belong to a grave yard that used to run underneath the footpath.
Police were alerted to the discovery after a contractor discovered Church Road on Stockton High Street.
The footpath which backs on to a 400 year old graveyard.
The bones have been uncovered by builders carrying out renovation work in Stockton.
Work was temporarily stopped at the site and the bones have been bagged and sent to experts.
Police and scenes of crime officers attended the scene and bagged the bones, confirming it was not a police matter due to it being a historic discovery.
Police had to treat the find as a crime scene and recover all the bones as they would do with any other crime scene until it was decided it ways criminal matter.
