Police are appealing for information after an 80 year old man was threatened and attacked with a knife in his home in Skelmersdale.

The incident took place at approximately 00:25hrs on Thursday 9th January 2014 on Egerton when the man has answered the front door at his home address and been confronted by a man who has asked to use his phone. When he’s declined the man has tried to push past him and produced a knife and thrust it towards him. The victim received cuts to his face and hands during this assault but managed to push the offender out and closed the door.

The offender is described as a white man, aged 40 – 50yrs, 6ft 6ft2” tall with short brown hair and unshaven. He is described as scruffy, wearing a dark coloured waist length waterproof jacket and dark trousers. He spoke with a local accent.

DC Adam Burke said: “If anyone has any information regarding this incident I would urge them contact the police on 101 quoting log reference LC-20140109-0081 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. I would also reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare in this area and police patrols have been increased.”
