POLICE are appealing for information after an elderly man was approached by a man wielding a knife after he left work in Skelmersdale yesterday morning, Sunday 19th January 2014.
The incident took place around 12.30pm when the 70 year old victim was walking home along Ormskirk Road when he was approached by a man from behind opposite Lynz Kutz hairdressers and threatened with a knife.
The man has demanded money but has run off when the victim has insisted he didn’t have any.
The offender is described as being white, aged in his 20s with a dirty complexion and scruffy appearance. He was wearing a dark coloured zip up hooded jacket with a lighter coloured hood and dark trousers and trainers.
The knife is described as being a six inch black handled knife which was carried in a sheath attached to his belt.
An investigation is underway but police are appealing to anybody with any information about the man responsible to contact them.
DC Colin Filby from Southern Division CID said: “Fortunately, although threatened, the victim was not assaulted and did not have anything stolen, however the nature of the crime is very concerning and I would appeal to anybody with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
The victim was taken by ambulance to Southport hospital after experiencing pains in his chest. He has been detained for a few days for observation owing to his age and previous health problems.
