Appeal after couple are threatened by man with knife in Chorley

POLICE are appealing for information after a couple were approached by a man wielding a knife as they walked through an estate in Chorley.

The incident happened at 8pm on Thursday 2nd January when the 17 year old boy and his girlfriend were approached from behind by a man at the top of a ginnel along Clover Road near to the Gillbrands estate.

The man has shouted abuse at the boy before swinging at him with a knife. The victim has managed to block him using his arm and the offender has then made his way on foot up Lidgate Road.

The man is described as being aged between 20 to 25 years of age; over 6ft tall and skinny build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms and spoke with a local accent.

Police are reassuring the public that an investigation is underway.

PC Steve Benko from Chorley Police said: “Fortunately the victim managed to defend himself and was unhurt. I would reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare in Chorley but I’d appeal to anyone who may have any information about the identity of this man to contact Lancashire Police on 101.

“He is described as being under the influence of drink and drugs or suffering from a mental illness and we need the public’s help to find him.”
