Woman rescued from river tees

Emergency services attended a report of a woman in the River Tees near Newport Bridge at around 11.30am this morning, Sunday 1st December.

The Marine Unit from Cleveland Fire Brigade entered the water and rescued the 58 year old woman.

Newport Bridge was closed in both directions while the rescue operation took place, and the woman has been taken to hospital.

It reopened shortly before 12pm today, and the circumstances of the incident are not being treated as suspicious.
