York police are asking for witnesses and information following a robbery in the city this morning (27 December 2013).
At around 7.40am a local woman in her forties was walking to work along the footpath on Haxby Road opposite Clarence Gardens. A cyclist rode up behind her on the footpath and pulled her bag off her shoulder.
This made the victim fall over and hit her head on a wall. The suspect then cycled off, heading out of the city with the woman’s bag.
The bag is described as a green PVC satchel with an owl design and has a lime green shoulder strap. It contained personal items including a mobile phone and bank cards.
Police are appealing to anyone who was on Haxby Road this morning and witnessed the robbery to contact them.
They would also like to hear from anyone who has found a discarded bag which matches the description of the stolen bag.
Detective Constable Mo Mohammed of York CID, said: “This was a nasty attack on an innocent member of the public on her way to work. She sustained a graze to her forehead as a result of the incident and was extremely shaken up by what happened.
