Police treat bomb scare as malicious hoax

Are are today treating a bomb scare at the Castle Dene shopping Centre in Peterlee as a malicious Hoax

Police today evacuated the shopping centre and a cordon was immediately put in place following a phone call made to phones4U retail store.

A call was made at 12.20pm on Tuesday (10th December) police were then informed.

Durham Police Dog unit searched the scene were nothing of concern was found, police lifted the cordon at 1.30pm.
As a precaution police put in place a 300ft cordon and evacuated the shopping centre.

A Durham Police said: “The incident is being treated as a malicious hoax and police enquiries are continuing.”
