Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house fire at 7:30 am this morning (31 December 2013)at Bridge Street, Ambleside.

People were located inside the property. One person, despite receiving medical attention at the scene, was pronounced dead. Police will work with the family to inform relatives and formal identification will take place.

Police will be working closely with Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service to piece together exactly how the fire started.

Bridge Street in Ambleside is currently closed.
