Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a driver suffered a fractured spine and fractured sternum.

The incident happened as the 54-year-old male driver was approaching Guisborough roundabout on the eastbound carriageway of the A171 in his Mitsubishi Carisma on Friday 20th December at around 7.35am.

Another vehicle cut across the path of the Mitsubishi, causing the driver to brake sharply and lose control of the vehicle.

The Mitsubishi collided with trees and came to rest in a ditch. The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital and was detained with a fractured spine and sternum. His condition is currently described as stable.

Any one who may have seen a vehicle cut across the path of the Mitsubishi or anyone who may have further information is asked to contact PC Andy Overton from the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit on 101, quoting event number 222732.
