Police are appealing for witnesses after the theft of lead from a church roof.

The lead was taken sometime over the past few days from St Cuthbert’s Church in Billingham, and was marked with Smartwater which means that it can be traced back to where it was stolen from.

The value of the theft is relatively low although roofers will have to be employed to repair it, which can run into hundreds of pounds.

Anyone with information regarding the theft or any witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously at the church in the last few days can contact police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
