Three wolves have been shot dead after they escaped from a zoo in essex.

A pack of five wolves escaped from the zoo into thick undergrowth.

One of the five wolves returned to the enclosure shortly later.

A second wolf was shot with an anaesthetic dark and returned.

Police then began a search for the remaining three wolves.

Police requested members of the public to stay indoors.

Police then shot dead the three remaining wolves as they posed a risk to public.
